Philosophy of a Citynester:
I sort of fell backward into doing this from theatre to opera to architecture and from there to furniture and decorating. And I think what makes me particularly good at what I do is that I am constantly doing it in my own home for my own family. When you live in a small space, you are always reinventing areas, finding storage, looking for ways to make something out of nothing.
I’ve seen it with almost every client. You go from being two single people who move in together to create a hodge podge of single people stuff to being married - so you mix some nicer stuff with the old stuff - then you have a baby which brings the mix to a whole new level. You fill needs as they arise - bunk beds, toy storage, book storage - until you look around at a mixed up jumble that no longer reflects your personal style in any way you ever imagined! You feel paralyzed. This is where I begin.

This rewarding project brought new life to the third floor of a traditional Colonial home in Delaware. A sunshiny family room that doubles as a guest room and a bedroom to inspire jealousy now occupy this vast and previously unused space. The Master bedroom was turned into a zen oasis and fun and function were added downstairs in the entryway.

How I work:
We sit and look at what you have, what you still love, what you absolutely hate, what you need and what you want and we make a plan. And a budget. The process requires homework and patience and an open mind. If you are super lucky, you have some money set aside and you can do a total overhaul all at once - that is a dream job - but I love the other way too, the bit by bit way - because that’s how I work in my own home. I can work in any price range - from high quality showrooms at the D&D to Ikea and everything in between. You can build a great nest with any level of investment.
